What to expect from a visit to your MPM specialist

MPM specialists will take a comprehensive history of your pain problem, perform a thorough examination and formulate a management plan. Management includes referral for diagnostic tests and institution of a treatment plan. This plan could include, but is not limited to, education about your condition, the prescription of medications, exercises, manual therapy, office based injections or specialised injections under image guidance.

Conditions typically managed by MPM specialists are low back pain, sciatica, whiplash, pain over the pelvis, hips or into legs, osteoarthritis, shoulder region pain, neck pain, other joint pains, and chest wall pain.

In some instances your MPM specialist will triage your condition and if necessary on refer you to a more appropriate medical specialist for management. This typically occurs where a specific condition requires management by an orthopedic surgeon or rheumatologist.
